GoodWe ESA Series Home Battery System (3-10kW)

The ESA Series is GoodWe’s all-in-one home battery, with the inverter and battery built into one pre-wired unit rather than bolted together from separate boxes on the wall. That makes it quicker to install, which keeps labour costs down, and tidier once it’s up. It runs single phase, from 3kW up to 10kW, with battery storage you can size anywhere from 5kWh to 108kWh.

The main idea is that it grows with you.

The battery comes in 5kWh and 8kWh modules, and you stack what you need. Start with enough to get through the evening, then add more later when the budget allows or the household grows. One feature sets it apart from most: you can mix old and new modules, even different sizes, in the same system. A lot of batteries make you match everything, so if you expand in a few years you’re not forced to bin what you’ve already paid for.

When the grid goes down, the ESA backs up the whole house, not just a couple of circuits. It puts out 63A of backup power and switches over fast enough to keep things running, and it does that without a separate backup box (what installers call a “gateway”), which is more hardware and more cost on a lot of other systems.

A few other things worth knowing.

It charges and empties quickly. The battery runs at a 1C rate, which means it can fill up or discharge in roughly an hour. That’s handy for soaking up a midday solar surge, or for covering a big load like the oven and the air-con running at once.

It’s quiet. There’s no fan, so it sits under 30dB. You can mount it on a wall near living areas without it humming away in the background.

It’s built for safety. Six layers of battery protection and AI-based arc-fault detection (AFCI 3.0) come as standard, and the whole unit is IP66 rated, so it’s fine to install outdoors.

Room for plenty of panels. Each MPPT (the inputs your solar strings plug into) takes up to 20A, and you can oversize your panel array to 200% of the inverter’s rating. In plain terms, you can run a big solar setup into a smaller inverter and still capture most of what it makes.

It comes in hybrid and AC-coupled versions, so it suits both a brand-new solar install and adding a battery to a system you already have.
