GoodWe MS Series Inverter (5–10kW, Single Phase)

The MS Series is GoodWe’s single-phase solar inverter, the box that turns the DC power from your panels into the AC power your house runs on. It comes in four sizes (5kW, 6kW, 8.5kW, and 10kW), so there’s a match for most homes from a modest system up to a large one.

The standout feature is how much solar it lets you connect. It handles up to 200% DC oversizing, which means you can put a lot more panels on the roof than the inverter’s nominal rating. That sounds odd, but it’s a good thing: panels rarely hit their full rating in real conditions, so oversizing captures far more energy on cloudy days, in winter, and through the mornings and afternoons when the sun’s low. You end up with a flatter, fuller generation curve instead of a brief midday peak.

It’s built for tricky roofs too. With three MPPTs (the trackers that manage separate groups of panels), you can run panels facing different directions, say some on the north roof and some on the east, and each group performs to its best without dragging the others down. The low 80V start-up voltage means it kicks in earlier in the morning and keeps going later into the evening than many inverters, so you squeeze more out of each day. Peak efficiency is 97.7%, so very little is lost in the conversion.

On the practical side it’s lightweight at 22.5kg for an easy wall mount, runs on natural convection so there’s no fan to fail, and carries an IP65 rating for indoor or outdoor installation. You monitor everything through the GoodWe app over Wi-Fi, and it has a full set of built-in protections plus optional arc-fault (AFCI) detection. It needs to be installed by a licensed electrician.
