Sigen EV DC Charging Module

The Sigen EV DC Charging Module is the part of a SigenStor system that charges your car. It isn’t a separate box on the wall, it’s a module that stacks onto the SigenStor tower alongside the inverter and battery. What sets it apart from an ordinary home charger is that it’s DC-coupled: it sends power straight from your solar panels and battery to the car as DC, without converting it to AC and back again. That double conversion is where a normal home charger loses a bit of energy, so charging this way keeps more of your solar in the car.

It charges at up to 25kW, which is quick for a home setup, roughly 150km of driving range added in an hour. For most people an overnight charge or a daytime top-up from solar covers their driving easily. There’s a 12.5kW option as well if you don’t need the full speed.

It’s also bi-directional, and this is where it gets interesting.

Most chargers only push power one way, into the car. This one can pull it back out. With Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), your EV becomes a backup battery for the house during a blackout. Paired with a Sigen battery, that can add up to more than 100kWh of backup, enough to ride out a long outage. With Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), the car can feed power back to the grid at peak times.

A fair word on that: V2X depends on your specific car supporting it and on the relevant standards being finalised. Treat it as a capability the hardware is built for and switches on over time through software updates, rather than something every EV can do today.

You choose how it charges through the mySigen app: send spare solar to the car first, to the battery first, or fast-charge from solar, battery and grid together. It uses the CCS2 plug, which is the standard here, handles a wide 150 to 1000V range so it suits most EVs, and it’s IP66 rated with no filters or dust screens to clean, so there’s effectively no maintenance.
